In the last years the market of access control applications has
increased unusually, thanks to innovative technologies, as biometry
and Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID), predominantly realized
with contactless (proximity) smartcards. But the use of the RFID
technology entered in other fields, as the identification and the
trace of goods, thanks to tests made by large organizations like
Wall Mart and the Defence Department in USA or Metro in Europe, not
using proximity cards but with smart labels.
Thanks to this powerful pushes, investments in RFID market,
according to the analyst’s forecast, will pass from
the today 90 millions $ to 1.300 in 2008.
