The Italian Internet Registration Authority selects eToken for signing communications with italian providers.

 Pisa, September 2002 – The Istituto di Informatica e Telematica (IIT), of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Pisa,  has selected the Aladdin’s eToken as digital signature device for signing communications between Italians Internet providers/maintainers and the Italian Registration Authority. 

The Italian Registration Authority (RA) is the institute responsible for assigning names in the dominium with country code TLD "it". Any activities of the RA are performed in Italy by the Istituto di Informatica e Telematica of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (IIT-CNR).

The institute has taken the decision that communications between Italian providers/maintainers  and the RA must be digitally signed, for warranting the authenticity of the sender, the certainty of the content and the non repudiability of the message.

After a careful analysis of the solutions offered by the market, IIT has chosen the Aladdin’s eToken as the device for registering the signature certificates to be given to any Italian providers. 

“We have chosen an USB token and not a smartcard because you can link it directly to the computer,  without any other devices: so it is more economical, easier to support and to use. Then we has chosen the eToken from Aladdin –says ing Anna Vaccarelli, CNR researcher and director of the project– because it is very easy to install, it is completely in accordance to the standards, it is full compatible with the more used applications. In the next months any Italian provider will receive his eToken, with his signature certificate released by us, for signing any communications to the RA.” 

"Thanks to the eToken, Italian providers will easily sign  emails and digital documents, using their usual applications, “says Giulio Camagni, president of Partner Data, Italian distributor of Aladdin since more than 15 years "but they will even save inside ID’s and passwords to speed up the access to those protected Internet pages more frequently used. They also will protect the logon to their more reserved machines, adding eventually some of the many programs available on the market.”
